Thank you for your interest in our fire department. I hope that you find this information useful in answering questions you may have about our department.

The East Alton Fire Department is permitted to hold an active membership of Paid-On-Call firefighters. The Paid-On-Call positions are exactly what it implies – you receive compensation for responding to any incidents. Please keep in mind that serving your community as a firefighter for the East Alton Fire Department can sometimes require long hours of your time. Members leave the department because they move out of town, resign for personal reasons, retire from active service, or simply resign because of the ever-growing responsibility of being a member of such an active organization.

We are looking for those that can and want to accept the responsibility to help those in need, those who serve honorably to benefit the community, and those who perform admirably and relentlessly whenever and wherever the demand should arise. We hop this may be you!

The East Alton Fire Department is composed of many members who have devoted their valuable time to the fire service, and more importantly, ordinary people who live in this community. People who live ordinary lives – working men and women – some with families and children. These are men and women who have devoted not only their time to the fire service, but to serving the community in which they live.

If you become a member of the East Alton Fire Department you will receive a wealth of benefits:

  • Full worker’s compensation disability benefits.
  • Receive training by highly experienced training officers who are certified by the State of Illinois.
  • State-of-the-art full protective gear is provided by the department.
  • Provided with communications equipment.
  • All members are encouraged to attend seminars free of charge.
  • Full benefits from the State and Federal Government.
  • Hands-on use of highly specialized equipment.

I encourage you to look closely at the material. If you have questions please call us anytime.

Applications for volunteer (paid on-call) members can be picked up at the firehouse.

All applicants will be required to pass an agility test. This test is given to all candidates for the position of Paid-On-Call Fire Fighter. These test stations are based on actual fire ground operations. Click Here to view the requirements.
